Description

This extremely rare Gibson Custom Shop 1958 "Clapton Cut" Explorer is one of only 10 examples ever made. Five were finished in "Faded Cherry," with the remaining five finished in "Natural," like the example we have here.Eric Clapton purchased his "cut" '58 Explorer under the belief that it was a factory prototype. Although this was later debunked, Clapton ultimately kept the guitar because its modified body shape made it more comfortable to play while sitting down compared to a standard Explorer.

The neck features a chunky "C" profile with a 12" fretboard radius. As expected, this Explorer is exceptionally lightweight compared to traditional examples, thanks in part to its unique body contours.

Overall, an incredibly comfortable and distinctive player. Includes the original Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case.
